Back to School 2024

Back to School 2024📝

We are excited to welcome back the students of Wak̇aŋyeja Ki Ṫokeyaḣc̄i to the 2024-2025 school year! WKT is the only Lakota immersion school on the Rosebud Reservation, and this year, we've expanded to include a new kindergarten class, making us a K-4th grade school! Stay tuned to our socials as we share more content related to the school to celebrate the upcoming year!

Wak̇aŋyeja Ki Ṫokeyaḣc̄i knows the importance of local foods. School lunches are one of the most important things to maintain for our youth!

The immersion school works with our Food Sovereignty Initiative for lunches that are sourced every day from local ingredients. Meals are made with health and tradition in mind, feeding students' bodies, mind, and spirit! 🧠

Below is a video created by a nonprofit called “Meet My Neighbor Productions, Inc.”. Their Youtube series documents humane and restorative Agriculture. The beginning of the video features the Head of School Sage Fast Dog Sr., and their values in feeding our wak̇aŋyeja. 🎬

A special pilámayaye to all who participated, contributed, and made this event a resounding success. Your support and enthusiasm are what make our community events so special. It's moments like these that remind us of the strength and unity within our community. ❤️

Meet the Staff of Wak̇aŋyeja Ki Ṫokeyaḣc̄i

Here are the dedicated individuals who are bringing the Lak̇ota language into the classroom, grounding our children in Lak̇ota identity and strengthening our oyáte for generations to come.

Each of our staff members plays a vital role, ensuring our Wakanyeja grow up surrounded by our language, values, and Lak̇ota ways of life. Through their hard work, our language lives on, and our culture remains strong, guiding our youth to walk proudly in their Lak̇ota identity. 💪🏽

To continue our mission, we're launching a Back to School Campaign! Your donations will support us in revitalizing the Lakota language, culture, and Indigenous identity. You would be directly contributing to this important work, helping us keep the Lakota language alive and vibrant in our community. Wak̇aƞyeja Ki Ṫokeyaḣc̄i is reclaiming and rebuilding the foundation of the Siċaŋġu education system.❤️

10-Year Impact Assessment📃

The Sicangu Food Sovereignty Initiative is celebrating their 10th year in operation this year! 🎉 As a way to celebrate and get feedback from our community and partners, we are working with Sweetgrass Consulting, LLC to compile a 10-Year Impact Report.

This survey is open to anyone from the following list:

  • Community members

  • Parents

  • Parents of Wakanyeja Tokeyahci students

  • Producers (gardeners, farmers, ranchers, foragers, hunters, medicine gatherers, fishers, value-added product producers, forestry workers, etc)

  • Sicangu Harvest Market vendors (past and current)

  • SFSI program participants (Waicahya Icagapi Kte apprentices, Tribally Supported Agriculture shares, Adult Food Leaders, Next Gen interns, etc)

  • Other Sicangu Co program participants (Sicangu Health Initiative, Home Garden Project, Health & Wellness Coaching Program, REDCO Learning & Development, 7Gen Interns, Tatanka Funds, small scale producer assistance loan/grant program, Keya Wakpala Housing Development, community round tables, etc)

As you can see, this survey was meant to find you, and your feedback is extremely important as we continue to grow and strive to serve our community more. It is also an extensive survey, so please allow yourself plenty of time to complete it. One more bonus: all responses are anonymous unless you choose to identify yourself. If you do choose to share your name, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a gift certificate from Lakota Made, LLC!🌿🫧
