JOB SUMMARY:

The Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, design, and administration of a new Sicangu Co workforce development initiative, the Farm Apprentice Program. The Apprenticeship Coordinator ensures the successful recruitment, training, and mentorship of apprentices. The position also collaborates with community partners and Sicangu Co Food Sovereignty staff. The role also includes administrative duties such as tracking progress, reviewing participant evaluations, and coordinating logistics for programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Recruitment:

  • Collaborate with the Learning & Development staff and Marketing team to create recruitment plans for the Farm Apprenticeship Program.

  • Recruit participants through visits to local organizations, including high schools, Sinte Gleska University, and community events.

  • Manage recruitment processes, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and notify applicants of their application status.

Program Development and Management:

  • Coordinate with the Director, Sicangu Co Food Sovereignty, Rosebud Farm Co, Wolakota staff and other community partners to design the program schedule, including orientation, regular cohort-wide training, and monthly workshops.

  • Ensure the apprenticeship program meets industry standards and adapts to evolving sustainable agricultural practices.

Mentorship and Training:

  • Act as the primary mentor for apprentices, providing guidance and support throughout the apprenticeship.

  • Coordinate and lead regular check-ins with apprentices and their on-site supervisor.

Evaluation:

  • Create, distribute, and collect evaluations for their program

  • Maintain thorough records of apprentices’ attendance and skill development

Community Engagement

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, including Sinte Gleska University (SGU), local school districts, South Dakota Soil Health Coalition, and others to create additional learning opportunities for apprentices.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage program logistics, including scheduling and coordination of apprentice workshops, field trips, and other experiential activities to broaden their learning

  • Track and report on program metrics, ensuring alignment with organizational & grant goals.

  • Collaborate with the Director and Development Team to manage the grant that funds the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

· High School Diploma, some college preferred.

· Minimum 3 years of experience in agricultural or apprenticeship/internship program management, or related work.

Skills:

· Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a passion for teaching and guiding apprentices.

· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

· Proficiency in administrative tasks such as program tracking, reporting, and record-keeping.

· Ability to work in both a collaborative team setting as well as independently.

· Familiarity with Office 365 products.

· Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and principles is a plus

· Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.

· Must pass a comprehensive background check

COMPENSATION:

  • $21-24/hour, based on education, qualifications, and experience

  • Position is full-time permanent position with benefits upon performance review

Schedule

· 40 hours per week

· Hybrid option available

· Occasional travel and some weekends required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
