The Power of Vision is a Path to Self-Sovereignty

The Power of Vision is a

Path to Self-Sovereignty

We want to take a moment to reflect on our powerful vision and the driving force behind our dedication to investing time and resources into our programs.

At Siċaŋġu Co, we believe that having a vision is more than just a roadmap for the future; it is a declaration of self-sovereignty. The strength of a community lies in its ability to see beyond the present, to imagine a future where its members thrive in every aspect of life. For us, this means nurturing a vision that encompasses not just the next generation, but the next seven generations. Our ancestors laid the groundwork for this long-term perspective, and it is through their foresight that we continue to build a resilient and vibrant ecosystem today.

The programs within each initiative that you see within our community are so much more than their titles; they are the manifestation of a collective vision rooted deeply in our Lak̇ota way of life. This vision is driven by our commitment to uphold the values and traditions that define us, ensuring that every action we take today contributes to a prosperous future for our descendants. From bringing home the buffalo and revitalizing the Lak̇ota language to promoting food sovereignty, Lakota health, and Indigenous place-making, we believe that these goals are interconnected and can be accomplished simultaneously. Each initiative is a testament to our belief in the power of self-determination and our ability to shape our future the best way WE know how.

Believing in this vision is an act of self-sovereignty. It is a powerful affirmation of our right to define our path and to create opportunities that reflect our identity while staying true to our Lak̇ota traditions. By holding steadfast to this vision, we honor the sacrifices and dreams of our ancestors, empowering ourselves and our future generations. As we move forward, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity and our shared commitment to a vision that elevates and sustains our community for generations to come. Through collective efforts, we will continue to achieve a harmonious balance where cultural revitalization, health, and sustainability thrive together, ensuring a vibrant and sovereign future for the Siċaŋġu Lak̇ota Oyate.

The support we receive from our allies and partners is an invaluable investment in our shared vision, reinforcing the belief that together, we can continue to create a thriving, self-sufficient, and culturally wealthy community for generations to come.
